“Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.” -Ezra 10:4
For three hundred years, we have gathered at St. Michael’s to worship God, to pray, to sing, to listen, to be comforted, to be challenged, to give thanks and to be strengthened in Christ. In tribute to our vibrant parish, we seek to build on our historic foundation for future generations of worship and music, pastoral care and fellowship, outreach and education.
In preparation for and celebration of our fourth century of gathering and seeking transformation in God’s grace, St. Michael’s is declaring its commitment to future generations by embarking on a capital campaign.
This community effort will strengthen our ability to fulfill our sacred mission by enabling us to better utilize, and be better stewards of our church home. Through careful study and engagement of the congregation, and taking into consideration all aspects of our mission and vision, balancing immediate needs and future goals, we have decided to move forward with the following projects:
We know that to successfully welcome people, we need to make accessibility open to all. This project will enable universal access to events on the Summer St. lawn, such as the Lobster Luncheon, to the downstairs of the Parish Hall, and to the Church as a whole. It expands our current handicapped accessibility from Pleasant St., providing safe and convenient drop-off and pick-up for everyone.
Renovating the Parish Hall basement to provide meeting, office, rehearsal and classroom space, upgrading the Parish Hall heating (already completed) and upgrading furnishings on the main floor of the Parish Hall and lobby will provide space to better accommodate the diverse activities encompassing our parish life. It will enhance our ability to carry out our ministries, and will increase the sense of welcoming we can offer to our parishioners, visitors, and the community at large.
The core of our ministry is found in our worship, in our historic building. We will declare our commitment to generations to come, by repairing the bell tower to address water leaks, repairing and painting the sanctuary ceiling, restoring stained glass windows, upgrading the church heating (already completed) and erecting a new steeple.
Our contribution to the Diocese of Massachusetts’ “Together Now” campaign, to employ and enable diocesan mission opportunities.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
To make the best use of volunteer resources, we are combining our annual appeal and our capital campaign efforts. Your annual pledge powers our many ministries. Please give generously to our annual appeal before considering your capital campaign pledge.
In order to make our capital campaign a success, gifts of every size are essential. Please prayerfully consider your part in this important effort. In addition to your campaign pledge (payable over 1–3 years), you might also wish to consider making a planned gift to St. Michael’s, such as a bequest in your will, a gift of life insurance, a charitable annuity, or other appreciated property such as appreciated stock or mutual funds.
No matter how you decide to help, thank you.
